I made a layout with Snickerdoodle Designs new Marble Styles. They are so much fun to use and look fantastic. If you have never used Snickerdoodle Designs styles then you are missing out. They are all wonderful and she even includes the metadata file for PSE users (I don't know of anyone that does that) and she gives you a tutorial on how to install and use the style. So if you have been dragging your feet on learning how to install and use styles then stop and hurry to her store and pick up her Marble Styles and while you are there pick up a few more because they are all wonderful. Head on over to ScrapMatters for their WordUp challenge. We had to make a layout about a tangible item we treasure and use the word treasure. I treasure my Mom's purse. It is still just as it was in 2001. She loved eating hard candy and use to tell me, "One day when I am gone you will find my candy in the oddest places." She was right!! I went to a fish fry for my ex's side of the family on Memorial Day. I divorced my boys dad 19 years ago but didn't divorce his family. They will always be my family. Empty Nest

Our days of raising little ones are busy and we dream of the day when we won't have all the laundry, fingerprints and mess. But time goes by quickly and before you know it they are grown up and gone and there you are with an empty nest. Then you sort of wish you could have the laundry, fingerprints, and mess for a little while. I know i do......I raised two boys and my days were filled with dirt, legos, BB guns, and all kinds of adventures. I miss those days but I sure do love my boys. You can scrap those empty nest moments but don't stop there, you can scrap all kinds of layouts with this kit. Have you ever heard of Coolibah? Different name but fun app. It is a app for Iphone and Ipad. Go check it out. You can scrap on your Iphone or Ipad. How cool is that? Lets you later your items to the front or middle or back, drop shadow, text. There are designer kits that you can buy and some are free. Snickerdoodle Designs is one of the designers and she makes such cute stuff. You need to go check it out if you own an Iphone or Ipad and like to scrap. Okay I just had to play some more with Snickerdoodle Designs Second Chances-Valentine Edition-Childs Valentine Kit. You need this so bad. It is too much fun and the kids could help or you can do it yourself and give to the special little ones in your life. That is what I am going to do, mine are all grown up but I am going to give these to some special little someone's. In the pic you can see where I even used a fruit roll up and fruit snacks if you don't want to do candy. How about a granola bar? Now I did play around and change the size of the little cards just to see what they looked like. But it was so easy. I just sized the whole thing down so I would have tiny cards. If you print them out just as they are they are perfect business card size. You can see those in the post under this one. The little Nestle Treasure wrappers are too cute. I even made a little can that they can open and guess what is inside.......hugs and kisses chocolate candies. Okay time to go to work and stop playing now. Too much fun. Valentine Gift Ideas

If you are wanting some cute gift ideas then look no further. Go and get this Child's Valentine Kit from Digital Design Den that Snickerdoodle Designs has created. You can print out the cards to give as is or you can do what I did and leave a part at the top of each card when you cut them out, score them and fold them over then staple them on a bag that you have put some goodies or candy in. There are tags that you can tie around a baggie that you have put candy in and there are the cutest little treasure bar wrappers. Just cut them out wrap them around a Nestle's Treasure Bar and put a glue dot or adhesive to hold it. You could even use those as the goodies in the bags and then you would have a really cute coordinated gift. How special is that? This is what I made with them.

I applied the style to the frames from the kit and my font (font used is Cheri Liney), I love the effect that this style gives. The styles are available here and you can pick up the kit here. I had to play with Elise's Distressing Toolbox brushes. Have lots more playing to do but took one and made a mask out of it. I love the way it looks. I used her kit Read All Over Mini Kit to scrap the picture after applying the distress mask to it.

We all survived...

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930s, '40s, '50s, '60s and '70s!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who may have smoked and/or drank
while they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then, after that trauma, we were
put to sleep on our tummies
in baby cribs covered
with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets,
and, when we rode our bikes,
we had baseball caps,
not helmets, on our heads.

As infants and children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes..

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter, and bacon. We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar. And we weren't overweight.
WHY?

Because we were always outside playing...that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day.
--And, we were OKAY.

We would spend hours building
our go-carts out of scraps
and then ride them down the hill,
only to find out we forgot the brakes.. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem..

We did not have Play Stations, Nintendo’s and X-boxes. There were
no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
no video movies or DVDs,
no surround-sound or CDs,
no cell phones,
no personal computers,
no Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS
and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut,
broke bones and teeth,
and there were no lawsuits
from those accidents.

We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping-pong paddles, or just a bare hand, and no one would call child services to report abuse.

We ate worms, and mud pies
made from dirt, and
the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls, and
-although we were told it would happen- we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts
and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn
to deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers,
problem solvers, and inventors ever.

The past 50 to 85 years have seen an explosion of innovation and new ideas..

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

Happy Mother's Day

I was sitting and thinking about Mother's Day and missing my Mom. We always had so much fun telling each other Happy Mother's Day and celebrating it together. She has been gone 8 years now and I sure wish I could tell her Happy Mother's Day. She was a wonderful Mom, Mamo, Grandma and best friend. I just wanted to share 3 layouts I did about my Mom. Then one is about me being a Mom. I wouldn't trade it for the world. While I wouldn't want to go back because I sure couldn't keep up now, I do miss some of those days. So Happy Mother's Day to all the women out there!

Journalling reads: The angels gathered near your bed so very close to you. For they knew the pain and suffering that you were going through. I thought about so many things as I held tightly to your hand. Oh how I wished that you were strong and happy once again. But your eyes were looking homeward to that place beyond the sky. Where Jesus held his outstretched arms, it was time to say good-bye. I struggled with my selfish thoughts for I wanted you to stay. So we could walk and talk again like we did just yesterday. But Jesus knew the answer and I knew He loved you so. So I gave to you life’s greatest gift. The gift of letting go. Now my heart will carry memories of the love you gave to me. Until we meet again in heaven where the best is yet to be.

Journaling reads: What do you see when you look at this layout?
Feet? Yes you are right. But these feet are special,
and my last Christmas memory of Mom. It was Christmas
2000 and she stayed the night so she could be there
to watch my boys open their presents. I just happened
to catch her feet in the picutre but I didn't know those
would be some of the last photos of her. You see she was
promoted to Heaven in April 2001. If I had known those
would be the last photos of her I would have taken so many
more and gotten all of her. So you see, those feet are
special and when I see those pictures I look very hard and
wish I could see the rest of her in the picture. Those
feet carried my best friend and Mom around for 66 years and ...
I do miss them so.

Journaling reads: I will never forget that morning : January 15, 2001. You called me at 8am and told me you had slipped on the frost on the front porch when the cat darted out the door. You told me your neck and head were hurting and I asked if you had hit them. You said you hadn't but that you just needed to talk to me for a minute. All of a sudden you told me to call 911 and went unconscious. I yelled for the boys and told Tim to run to the neighbors and call 911 because your phone was off the hook. I ran so fast and will never forget the urgency I felt while trying to get there. Andrew held the phone and talked to you the whole time till I got to the house. I could hear the ambulance behind me as I got there. You had a brain aneurysm and they didn't think you would live on the lifeflight to Dallas. You did and after 5 weeks in ICU, you came back to rehabilitate at St. Michaels. You came home on March 22, 2001 and I didn't know that you would leave us on April 26, 2001. I miss our phone calls just to talk about the bird you saw outside. I miss talking to you for an hour on the phone about nothing at all but enjoying every minute. I miss sharing my life with you and think of how much you have missed. Being a great grandma, three more grandbabies, my boys graduating high school and one joining the Navy. I miss so many things. But most of all...
I miss you
Profoundly. Deeply. Forever.

Journaling reads: When I grew up I always wanted to be a mom. I was blessed with Andrew and Tim. I have been a teacher, homeschooling both of you. I have been a nurse through operations, stitches and broken things. I have been a hostess for many birthday parties. I have been a maid, washing clothes, picking up stuff and washing dishes. I have been a cheerleader and broke many lawnchairs trying to help you score a goal. I have been a cook and made my share of burritos. chocolate cake, pancakes, and spaghetti. I would not trade one day of being a mom for all the money in the world and enjoy watching both of you grow into wonderful young men who still and always will, call me...MOM.

Quilts and Mom

This is a quilt that my mother made for me. I didn't remember it was for me till after she died. She made a quilt for each of her grandchildren and we kept her pretty busy, she made twelve of them and decided to go from baby quilts to larger ones. She was going to make each of us children one (there are 4 of us). She made my sister one and then died in 2001. I was going through her things and thought about the fact that I never did get mine. We were very close, actually she was my best friend and I would have cherished it so. I came upon a quilt that had been finished and had the backing folded with it. I realized the it was one she had done for me. I had forgotten all about it but recalled her saying that she was going to make it for me since I would appreciate the odd colors. It was Amish and my mother always loved Amish things. I was so excited to find it and was telling a lady at church about it. She said she was in a quilting group and they loved mom and would be happy to quilt it for me. My mother did everything by hand, she loved doing all the things that went with quilting. She would cut each piece out with her rotary cutter and then hand sew and iron each piece. Then she would pick out the design she wanted to quilt and she would trace it on there. She quilted so good that a woman told her once that she almost did museum quality and that was 12 stitches to an inch. She won many awards for her quilts. I think of her every time I see or have my quilt on me. The love she quilted into it and then the love that each woman quilted into it as they finished it for me.
